Did you lose money with financial advisor Christopher Carpenter, formerly with LPL Financial in Charlotte, North Carolina? Christopher John Carpenter was barred by FINRA after he failed to cooperate with a FINRA investigation.

In February 2023, LPL Financial filed a Form U5 with FINRA, stating that Carpenter’s affiliation with LPL Financial had ended. LPL Financial also disclosed that Carpenter was being investigated internally by LPL for his “alleged participation in unapproved real estate investments or REIT investments with customers”. Financial advisors must get prior approval from their brokerage firm for any investments sold to a customer.

Mr. Carpenter had been with LPL Financial in North Carolina City from March 2020 to February 2023. Carpenter was also previously with Spire Securities. Carpenter worked in Charlotte, North Carolina.

FINRA Rules, including FINRA Rule 8210, provides that brokers like Christopher Carpenter are required to respond to FINRA investigations. LPL Financial must adequately supervise the conduct of its advisors, per FINRA Rule 3110.
