SEC Bars Stephen Alison of Eugene, Oregon from the Securities Industry

The SEC recently barred Alison from the securities industry, regarding allegations that he failed to disclose excessive 12b-1 fees that his clients were being charged. In particular, the SEC alleged that Alison failed to put his clients in proper mutual funds to avoid them paying excessive fees, which in turn Alison received from the mutual fund companies. The SEC also alleged that Alison failed to disclose the deteriorating financial condition of his company, Alison, LLC.
Stephen Alison was a financial advisor and registered representative of KMS Financial Services from 2004 to December 2014. He worked at a branch office in Eugene, Oregon. KMS Financial Services is based in Seattle, Washington.
Brokerage firms like KMS Financial Services have a responsibility to adequately supervise all representatives who are registered through their firm. Brokerage firms also must take steps to ensure that their financial advisors follow all securities rules and regulations, as well as internal firm policies. When brokerage firms fail to adequately supervise their registered representatives, they may be liable for investment losses sustained by customers.
