FINRA seeks to bar Likens from the securities industry after he failed to respond to a FINRA investigation. FINRA was investigating Joseph Likens regarding allegations that he may have engaged in selling private securities without permission from his brokerage firm, LPL Financial.
Joseph Likens was a financial advisor and registered representative of LPL Financial from January 2015 to May 2015. He worked at a branch office in Des Peres, Missouri. His BrokerCheck report also discloses that he worked with companies called Cornerstone Wealth Management and PWA Network. Likens was previously affiliated with Merrill Lynch from April 2009 to January 2015. He also filed for bankruptcy in 2013.
Brokerage firms like LPL Financial have a responsibility to adequately supervise all representatives who are registered through their firm. Brokerage firms also must take steps to ensure that their financial advisors follow all securities rules and regulations, as well as internal firm policies. When brokerage firms fail to adequately supervise their registered representatives, they may be liable for investment losses sustained by customers.
