Li-Lin Hsu, formerly with Ameriprise Financial Advisors, Arrested by FBI for Fraud
Have you lost money with financial advisor Li-Lin Hsu of Los Angeles, California? We are continuing our investigation into Li-Lin Hsu, who was arrested regarding allegations of mail fraud, wire fraud, and money laundering. According to AdvisorHub, Hsu was alleged to have stolen money from 11 clients of her former brokerage firm, Ameriprise Financial Advisors. It was alleged that Hsu used the money to pay off credit card debt, personal loans, and bought real estate and luxury items.
Hsu was previously the target of allegations made by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The SEC sought to bar Hsu from the securities industry regarding alleged misrepresentations made in the sale of investments of OOPS J&I International.
According to Li-Lin Hsu’s BrokerCheck report, she was terminated from her brokerage firm, Ameriprise Financial Advisors, regarding allegations that she commingled funds, maintained a beneficiary relationship with a client, and conducted business with a foreign client. There are two customer complaints filed against Hsu, alleging that she recommended investments in OOPS J&I International franchises, a nail salon franchise based in East Asia.
Li-Lin Hsu was a financial advisor and registered representative of Ameriprise Financial Advisors, Inc. from 2005 to April 2015. She worked at a branch office in Los Angeles, California. Hsu has been the subject of at least two customer complaints. She was also barred by FINRA in 2015 for failing to respond to a FINRA investigation.
Brokerage firms like Ameriprise Financial Advisors have a responsibility to adequately supervise all representatives who are registered through their firm. Brokerage firms also must take steps to ensure that their financial advisors follow all securities rules and regulations, as well as internal firm policies. When brokerage firms fail to adequately supervise their registered representatives, they may be liable for investment losses sustained by customers.
