Running $1 Million Ponzi Scheme

According to the Times Union Capitol Confidential in June 2015, Monroe was charged with money laundering, grand larceny, and fraud for allegedly running a Ponzi scheme in which more than $1 million was taken.
On December 21, 2015, Monroe pleaded guilty to three counts of grand larceny, money laundering, and fraud. His case is set for a sentencing hearing on February 16, 2016.
Frederick Monroe, who lives in Queensbury and has an office in Albany, New York, allegedly solicited victims to write personal checks, representing that he would invest their money in bonds. However, according to the NY Attorney General’s allegations, Monroe instead used the money to pay off earlier investors and to fund his lifestyle. It was alleged that at least $1 million was not invested as represented.
Frederick E. Monroe was a financial advisor with Voya Financial Advisors from 2006 to the present. Monroe also was affiliated with Capital Financial Planning in Albany, New York. Bail was set for Fred Monroe at $300,000.
