Have you lost money with financial advisor Jason A. Muskey of Moosic, Pennsylvania? We are continuing to investigate allegations that Jason Muskey stole money from his clients. Muskey was recently charged with mail fraud, money laundering, and identity theft by the U.S. Attorney’s office in the Middle District of Pennsylvania. The federal prosecutor alleged that Muskey stole at least $2 million from at least 26 clients over a seven year period. Muskey pled guilty to these charges in February 2015.
Jason Muskey was a financial advisor with Ameritas Investment Corp. from June 2006 to June 2014. He worked at an office in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania. He was barred from the securities industry in June 2014 by FINRA, the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, for failing to respond to an investigation connected with the theft allegations. Muskey was also the former president of a semi-pro football team called the NEPA Miners.
Brokerage firms like Ameritas Investment Corp. have a responsibility to adequately supervise all representatives who are registered through their firm. Brokerage firms also must take steps to ensure that their financial advisors follow all securities rules and regulations, as well as internal firm policies, such as refraining from selling investments and securities that are not approved by the firm. When brokerage firms fail to adequately supervise their registered representatives, they may be liable for investment losses sustained by customers.
