Rest’s BrokerCheck report shows that he has been the subject of four customer complaints, all of which have been made since June 2022. Each complaint makes allegations about recommendations to invest in products issued by GWG, including GWG L bonds. GWG invested in life insurance policies on the secondary market.

In April 2022, GWG Holdings filed for bankruptcy protection, which results in significant losses for GWG investors. If a recommendation to invest in GWG L bonds was unsuitable for a customer, then Rest and JRL Capital Corp. could be responsible for any investor losses.

Hillard Charles Rest worked at an office in Newport Beach, California with JRL Capital Corp. from March 2013 to April 2023. He also operated Hillard Rest Associates in Newport Beach.
